SeaCamp 2017 - July 24-28
Summer science camp for kids who want to EXPLORE THE MARINE WORLD
July 24-28, 2017, 9am to 4pm
The 2017 Summer Science SeaCamp at Foss Waterway Seaport will give kids who want to explore the marine world new way to bringing science to life! There will be land-based activities in and around the Seaport, boat-based trips and outings to local beaches and various environmentally diverse sites. SeaCamp fosters a personal connection with the marine environment and the life it supports, so that students want to become environmental stewards, take better care of their natural habitat, and learn about the scientific process.

The Seaport’s Summer Science SeaCamp will explore the marine world from micro to macro. This STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) camp, perfect for students going into 7, 8, or 9th grade, will be a week full of experiences based around the marine ecosystem of Puget Sound. We will have low tides - great for beach studies that will include observing and appreciating the diversity of local Puget Sound habitats.
This camp will give campers a chance to investigate local marine life up close and personal both in their natural settings and in the Seaport's instructional tanks. On our boat days, campers will observe birds and mammals, collect and identify the smallest inhabitants of the Sound, and learn about how everything from land and sea are connected in our watershed.
Campers will participate in the following activities:
● Study marine life in their natural settings
● Investigate the microscopic world of many of the creatures they “know”
● Assess human impact on local marine environments
● Participate in marine animal dissections
● Discover the difference types of plankton
● Eat foods from the sea and make an edible beach illustrating zonation
