Educational Programming |

The Foss Waterway Seaport will provide exciting hands–on education programming for people of all ages. Through programs offered inside the building, on the water, and taken into schools and into the broader community, participants will develop a new understanding and appreciation of our maritime cultural, environmental, and economic heritage and the contemporary importance of our region in national and international trade.
K–12 Environmental and Marine Biology Education
This planned project creates a state–of–the–art K–12 marine science teaching laboratory. Developed with — and for — use by area schools, school districts, universities, public and private agencies, the laboratory will utilize adjacent Commencement Bay as a teaching platform to enhance science learning achievement and to support regional school districts' training of young people for the vital environmental science and ecology jobs of the future. The developing framework for the laboratory includes the following elements:
- Using science curricula to exceed education standards requirements
- Offering students real time oceanographic research education experiences
- Linking to museum programs that enhance students' cross–curricula communication skills development
