EcoKayak was an on-water after school program for middle schoolers in the Tacoma School District, which aided them in learning about environmental science while kayaking in the Thea Foss Waterway.
EcoKayak was a partnership between Foss Waterway Seaport and Parks Tacoma. Funding came from grants secured by Foss Waterway Seaport.
During the 2025-2026 school year, students from middle schools in Tacoma had the opportunity to pilot a new EcoKayak program - a 4-day after school program where students practiced the fundamentals of sea kayaking with qualified instructors, collected water samples while on the water, and tested the samples for coliform bacteria.
EcoKayak is not a field trip. For more information on our available programs, and to book a field trip, please click here.
